Gaza Strip: Hamas and Islamic Jihad say ceasefire is reached with Israel after day of fighting

Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the two largest militant factions in Gaza, said Saturday a ceasefire agreement was reached with Israel following a serious spike in fighting between the two sides over the past 24 hours.

Two hundred projectiles, including rockets and mortars, were fired toward Israel in the previous 24 hours, Israel Defense Forces said. Israel said it carried out what it called its single largest bombing campaign in Gaza since the 2014 war.

Ethiopia: Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) rebel group declares ceasefire in wake of reforms

An Ethiopian rebel group declared a unilateral ceasefire on Thursday after parliament removed it from a list of banned terrorist groups as part of a reform drive led by the new prime minister.

The Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) has fought for autonomy for the Oromiya region – Ethiopia’s largest – since 1993. It was designated a terrorist group by the government in 2008.

Pakistan: More than 100 die in bomb attacks on poll rallies, claims Islamic State (IS)

A suicide bomber has killed at least 128 people at a campaign rally in south-western Pakistan - the deadliest attack in the country since 2014.

A local candidate was among the dead in the Mastung town, police say. So-called Islamic State (IS) claimed the attack.

Afghanistan: 23 soldiers killed in clashes in Kunduz province

At least 23 soldiers were killed and 13 wounded in clashes in Afghanistan’s northern province of Kunduz Wednesday night, a local official said Thursday.

“Taliban militants stormed joint security checkpoints in Qarluq locality of Archi district at midnight. The clashes lasted for hours and caused six national army and local police personnel killed,” district Governor Nasruddin Nazari told Xinhua.

Philippines: 12 Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) killed in Maguindanao clashes

Twelve members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters were killed in a series of clashes in the municipality of Shariff Saydona Mustapha in Maguindanao, a regional military spokesperson said Tuesday.

Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Gerry Besana said the BIFF members under Commander Bungos were killed last Sunday at Sitio Pandan and Sitio Mungkas in Barangay Malingao.
