A series of coordinated attacks against security forces hit Russia’s volatile autonomous republic of Chechnya on Monday with authorities claiming to have killed at least five assailants - all of them children.
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the spate of violence, the SITE monitoring group reported, citing the group’s Amaq website.

The Nigerian Army on Saturday handed over 23 minors rescued from Boko Haram insurgents, to the United Nations Children Fund for rehabilitation.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Abbah Dikko, who stated this at the command headquarters in Maiduguri, said the exercise was in conformity with global best practices.

Military forces of Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region have retaken a strategic town from Islamic militant group al-Shabaab, an officer said on Friday.
Captain Saiid Mohamed Diriye said his forces retook Af Urur without a fight. The town is important because the main road that links the cities of Garowe, Bosaso and the Somali capital Mogadishu passes nearby.

Thirty five Houthi militias’ members were killed in Al-Jawf governorate during intense battles with the Yemeni national army, while Arab coalition fighter jets destroyed five military vehicles belonging to the Iranian-backed militias.
This comes while the Yemeni army backed by the coalition in al-Jawf governorate seize control over several strategic mountains located in Wadi Salba.

There are believed to be around 30,000 ISIS fighters across Iraq and Syria, according to two new reports from the Pentagon and the U.N., far higher than previous estimates.
Between the lines: Michael Dempsey, former acting director of national intelligence now at CFR, writes for Axios that ISIS is focused “on keeping a toehold in Iraq and Syria and embedding its supporters into local populations.”
