Libyan security forces have stormed the headquarters of the country’s national oil company in the capital Tripoli shortly after gunmen had taken hostages and set off explosions in the building.
The health ministry said two people were killed and 10 others were injured in the attack.

Clashes and air strikes have left 84 people dead around Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeida since the collapse of UN-brokered peace talks, hospital sources said on Sunday.
The sources in Hodeida province, controlled by Houthi rebels, said 11 soldiers and 73 insurgents had been killed since the talks were abandoned on Saturday.

Clashes erupted on Saturday between US-backed Kurdish fighters and Syrian troops in the center of the city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria that left at least 18 people killed, Kurdish forces said.
The fighting took place after a Syrian military convoy entered areas in the city which the Kurdish YPG militia’s internal security forces said were under their control.

Warlord Khalifa Haftar said Thursday that “Tripoli crisis shouldn’t go longer and liberating the Libyan capital is inevitable.”
Speaking to tribal leaders in Benghazi, he declared that he would “liberate” Tripoli through a well-structured plan to end what he called “militias’ rule.”

The Syrian military shelled the last stronghold of active rebellion against President Bashar Assad Wednesday as an activist group said insurgents blew up another bridge in anticipation of a government offensive.Damascus, backed by allies Russia and Iran, has been preparing an assault to recover Idlib and adjacent areas of the northwest, and resumed airstrikes Tuesday after weeks of lull.
Idlib’s fate now appears likely to rest on the results of Friday’s Tehran summit between the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran – a meeting that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov Wednesday said would make the situation “clearer.”
