Nigerian troops repelled an attack on a military base in northeastern Borno state in which a soldier was killed and four others were injured, military and militia sources told AFP on Saturday.
On Wednesday jihadists from ISIS-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province killed three soldiers when they temporarily seized control of another base in the town of Kareto, 200km away.

Jihadists on Friday killed nine Syrian regime fighters near a planned buffer zone around the country’s last major rebel bastion, a monitor said.
A September deal between government ally Russia and opposition backer Turkey aimed to set up a de-militarised zone around the northwestern region of Idlib to protect it from a regime assault.

At least 37 bodies were found on Friday in the central town of Alindao after clashes between armed groups, the UN mission in the perennially restive Central African Republic (CAR) said.
“Thirty-seven deaths confirmed in Alindao,” said a report seen by AFP news agency.

Military confrontations between the Abu Salim Central Security Force, loyal to the Government of National Accord, and members of the Seventh Brigade broke out on Wednesday evening after the latter’s forces advanced towards Libya’s International Airport, south of the capital.
The armed clashes in Libya’s Tripoli coincide with Government of National Accord’s efforts to implement a plan to achieve security and end the roles of militias.
