Yemen: Yemeni army makes strategic advances against al-Houthi militia

The Yemeni army has continued in its advances against the Houthis, liberating strategic areas in Saada that were strong-holds of the militia, the armed forces media center said Thursday.

Backed by the Saudi-led Arab coalition, the army advanced in the western part of Saada province, northwestern Yemen, making gains in Baqem district.

Libya: Clashes between Seventh Brigade and Tripoli Protection Force rival militias kill at least 2 people

At least two people have been killed in clashes between rival militias in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

The fighting on Wednesday violated a UN-brokered ceasefire which was signed four months ago.

Syria: 4 americans killed in Manbij attack, Islamic State (IS) claims responsibility

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion that killed four Americans — two US service members, a defense contractor and a Department of Defense civilian — in the Syrian city of Manbij on Wednesday, according to the US military.

All four US personnel that were killed were Americans, according to Commander Sean Robertson, a spokesman for the Pentagon.

Kenya: Al-Qaeda linked al-Shabaab claims responsibility for terrorist attack on luxury Nairobi hotel, 14 dead

At least 14 people, including a US citizen, have died in the terrorist attack on the DusitD2 hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, according to the authorities. Somalia-based Islamist group Al-Shabaab has taken responsibility.

The attack on the complex, which includes a restaurant and a business center, began at around 3 pm local time, when a band of armed militants launched grenades at vehicles outside the hotel.

As clashes broke out near Alei Chaung village in Buthidaung township on morning of January 13, all villagers fled their village and they are being sheltered at Thayatpyin monastery.

More than 260 people from Alei Chaung village in Buthidaung township fled their homes on January 13.
