North Macedonia: Macedonian parliament approves country’s name change to Republic of North Macedonia

The name dispute between Greece and Macedonia has been souring bilateral relations for years, with Athens opposing the use of “Macedonia,” which is also the name of a region in Greece, Trend reports citing Sputnik.

Debates on the new legislation started on Wednesday and continued through Thursday. The final vote was postponed several times due to the lack of the 80 votes needed for the amendments to pass.

Ukraine: Ukrainian forces shell Lugansk People’s Republic territory 4 times over tlast 24 hours

Ukrainian forces have shelled the territory of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) four times over the last 24 hours, LPR people’s militia said on Saturday.

“The settlements of Frunze, Logvinovo and Zhelobok came under fire,” LuganskInformCenter quoted LPR people’s militia as saying.

Somaliland: Somaliland seeks international recognition by hosting British and Russian naval bases

The self-declared republic of Somaliland has expressed an interest in hosting British and Russian naval bases, which would add to an already active military presence along the coast of the Red Sea – one of the world’s busiest and most strategically important maritime passages.

Last weekend, British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson paid an unannounced visit to Somaliland and met with President Muse Bihi Abdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Yasin Hagi Mohamoud, and Defense Minister Essa Ahmed as well as Nuh Ismail Tani, top army general.

South Sudan: Heavy gunshots between National Salvation Front forces led Thomas Cirilo (NAS-TC) and SPLA-IO forces heard outside Maridi state

Heavy gunshots were heard on Wednesday morning in the northern part of Maridi state of the troubled Equatoria province.

The sound of heavy gunshots, which started in the early morning, created fears among the civilians as some civilians fled the area for safety.

Somalia: United States army says an airstrike in Somalia killed 6 al-Shabaab extremists

The United States military says it has carried out an airstrike in southern Somalia that killed six al-Shabaab extremists.

The U.S. Africa Command statement on Wednesday says Tuesday’s airstrike targeted an al-Shabaab camp near Yaaq Braawe in the Bay region.
