Egypt’s army on Monday said 46 suspected jihadists have been killed in clashes in the restive Sinai Peninsula, where troops are fighting the Islamic State group.
The “extremely dangerous” militants were killed in shootouts in north and central Sinai, the army said in a statement read on state television, without specifying when the clashes took place.

Yemeni security officials and eyewitnesses say that fighting has erupted in the key port city of Hodeida, the first significant clashes since warring sides agreed to a UN-brokered cease-fire deal in December.
They say the combat began overnight into Sunday, leaving fires burning on the main front lines in the city’s east and south, while exchanges of artillery fire shook the beleaguered city.

Several people have died in an attack by the jihadist group Boko Haram in southeastern Niger, local sources said on Saturday.
“There have been deaths, including police, and also some wounded, in this attack by Boko Haram,” an official in Diffa, a region of Niger close to the birthplace of Boko Haram in neighboring northeastern Nigeria.

Three Indonesian soldiers were killed Thursday in a gunbattle with Papuan independence fighters, the military said, adding to more than two dozen deaths in the conflict since November.
The military spokesman for Indonesia’s easternmost Papua region, Muhammad Aidi, said a force of 50-70 rebels armed with military-grade weapons as well as spears and arrows attacked a group of 25 soldiers in a battle lasting several hours.
