Burma-Myanmar: Northern Alliance extends ceasefire for rest of year

An alliance of ethnic armed groups that has been fighting the Myanmar military in the northeast and west of the country has extended its unilateral ceasefire until the end of this year, it said in a statement on Friday.

The alliance comprises the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Arakan Army (AA).

Indonesia: A toddler and a teen killed in gunfight between security forces and independentist rebels in Papua

A toddler and teenager were among three people killed in a gunfight between security forces and independence-seeking rebels in Indonesia’s restive Papua region, the military said on Thursday (Sep 19).

The deadly clash comes after mass demonstrations and violence gripped Papua - on the western half of New Guinea island - fuelled by anger over racism and fresh calls for self-rule in Indonesia’s easternmost territory.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Army kills military commander of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (DFLR) rebel group suspected of war crimes

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s army said it killed the military commander of a Rwandan rebel group whom the International Criminal Court suspected of war crimes.

Sylvestre Mudacumura of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda was killed around 5 a.m. when his camp was attacked by government forces in eastern Congo, regional army spokesman Richard Kasonga said by phone Wednesday.

Afghanistan: 22 killed and 38 wounded in Kabul suicide bombing claimed by taliban

Officials at Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) confirmed that the explosion near Massoud Square on Tuesday was caused by a suicide attacker, and that it detonated close to one of the Ministry of Defense’s buildings in Police District 9 (PD9) in the city of Kabul.

According to a Ministry of Interior statement, at least 22 civilians were killed and 38 others were wounded in the blast, including women and children.
