Clashes between Syrian regime forces and armed groups in the country’s last major opposition bastion have killed more than 80 on both sides in the past 24 hours, despite UN calls for de-escalation, a war monitor said Friday.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 42 jihadists and nine rebels had been killed in battles with regime forces in the northwestern province of Idlib since Thursday night.

Seven Taliban have been killed five others injured in two separate operations in the Wazikhwa and Sarobi districts of southeastern Paktika province, a statement said on Thursday.
Four Taliban were killed and three others injured in police raid in Gawashti locality on the Taliban hideout, a statement from the provincial Police Headquarters said.

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s army captured more than 291 Rwandan rebels and handed them over to authorities in the neighboring nation.
The fighters belong to MRCD Ubumwe, a political group seeking to oust Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Some of its leaders include former Rwandan Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungu, who’s in exile.

Syrian government and Russian air strikes killed at least 17 people on Tuesday in rebel-held northwestern Syria in a spike in casualties from relentless daily strikes in recent months, witnesses and rescuers said.
The northwest corner of the country, including the Idlib region, is the last significant swathe of Syrian territory still in insurgent hands after eight and a half years of war.

The National Salvation Front (NAS), an hold-out armed group in South Sudan, has accused pro-government troops of attacking its positions in parts of Yei River State.
In a statement issued on Monday, NAS claimed the South Sudan army (SSPDF) attacked its positions in Lasu payam and Mitika areas on Friday, in violation of the cessation of hostilities agreement.
