At least 18 people including eight Somali government soldiers and 10 al-Shabaab militants were killed, and more than 13 others wounded when fighters from al-Shabaab attacked Somali National Army and African Union peacekeeping mission troops bases in the middle Shabelle region on Sunday.
Hassan Ibrahim, a military official in the region, told Anadolu Agency over the phone that the main attack took place at AMISOM and SNA base in the vicinity of Qalimow in the region.

Turkey has launched ground and air attacks on Syrian troops after eight military personnel were shelled and killed in the north of the war-torn country, jeopardizing the Turkish leader President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s fragile security pact with Syria’s main ally, Russia.
“Those who test the determination of Turkey with such cowardly attacks will understand they are making a grave mistake,” Mr. Erdogan told Turkish television in Istanbul before flying out on a scheduled visit to Ukraine.

The Israeli army attacked several Hamas targets in the northern Gaza Strip early Saturday, in response to two Gaza rockets which were fired at Israel on Friday evening.
Among the targets attacked were weapons storage facilities and an underground infrastructure used by Hamas, said the IDF.

A soldier was wounded in an armed encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members Friday morning in Socorro town, Oriental Mindoro, police said.
Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan police information officer, said Corporal Froilan Yakak, a member of Philippine Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade, suffered a bullet wound on his right shoulder after his platoon encountered some 15 rebels in Sitio (sub-village) Panakan in Barangay Happy Valley at 8:55 a.m.
