Mozambique: Terrorist group Daesh claims responsibility for attacks in Mozambique and Afghanistan

The terrorist group Daesh has claimed responsibility for an attack in northern Mozambique close to the site of gas projects worth $60 billion.

On Monday, militants attacked the town of Mocimboa da Praia having occupied some locations, including an army barracks, before being expelled by security forces yesterday.

Mozambique: Mociboa da Praia district attacked by islamist insurgents

A pre-dawn attack in Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado on Monday caught the attention of analysts for being more daring than previous assaults.

Islamist insurgents reportedly arrived by both sea and land and occupied the district of Mociboa da Praia. The group attacked a defense forces barracks, over which they hoisted their black flag, according to police spokesman, Orlando Modumane.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: 49 dead in clashes between army and Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in Beni

At least 37 rebels and 12 soldiers were killed over four days of fierce fighting in Beni, northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), said a top general.

“We neutralized 37 ADF [Allied Democratic Forces] fighters and, unfortunately, 12 of our soldiers fell on the battlefield,” Gen. Sylvain Ekenge, deputy spokesperson for the Congolese army, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.

Iraq: 2 security members and 1 Islamic State (IS) militant killed in two clashes

A total of two security members and an Islamic State (IS) militant were killed on Monday in two clashes in Iraq, the Iraqi military said.

In the Iraqi province of Salahudin, a commando force of the provincial contingent regiment clashed with IS militants during a search operation in Ishaqi area, some 100 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a statement.

Syria: Syria sends dozens of tanks to Idlib front

The Syrian military has sent dozens of tanks to the Syrian province of Idlib, possibly in preparation for another large scale military operation, BulgarianMilitary.com said on Sunday, citing a military source.

“Despite the [ceasefire] agreements between Russia and Turkey, the Syrian army sends its tanks to the southern part of Idlib province. The reason for this is the failure to comply with an agreement that neither Moscow nor Ankara controls,” a source in the Syrian army told the site.
