At least nine Afghan soldiers were killed in a Taliban assault on their check post in Logar province bordering the capital Kabul Wednesday night, an official said.
Dedar Lawang, spokesperson for the provincial governor, told Anadolu Agency the incident took place in the Sark district of the province.

Eight people were killed overnight when security forces raided a “terror cell” in the capital, Egypt’s Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
The ministry said in a statement that an armed terrorist cell in east Cairo was targeted in line with intelligence provided by the country’s security agency.

Chadian army officials report military forces have killed about 1,000 Boko Haram extremists in an operation on the islands of Lake Chad.
In a video statement released late Thursday, Army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermandoa said the eight-day operation cleared the extremists from the islands in a vast area between Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon.

Libya’s internationally recognised government said its troops have seized control of two strategic coastal cities located between the capital, Tripoli, and the Tunisian border after expelling forces loyal to eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar.
“Our forces took control of Surman and Sabratha and are pursuing [Haftar’s forces],” Mohammed Gnunu, spokesperson of the Government of National Accord (GNA), said in a statement on Monday.

At least 38 Houthi rebels were killed on Saturday in clashes with government forces despite a truce reached earlier in the week, according to local media.
Yasir al-Harisi, a colonel from the Yemeni army, told the state SABA news agency that Houthi militias continued cease-fire violations by attacking areas belonging to army forces.
