Within hours after the Arakan Army (AA) launched attacks on a border guard police outpost in Rakhine State early Friday morning, its ally the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) intercepted a military convoy in northern Shan State, according to Myanmar military spokesman Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun.
The TNLA attacked the military convoy en route from Muse with remote-detonated mines near Namkut Village near the Union Highway in Kutkai Township, Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun confirmed to The Irrawaddy.

Clashes between Sudan’s army and Ethiopian militias near the border with Ethiopia over the past three days have left at least two people dead, a spokesman for the Sudanese army said on Thursday.
In a televised statement, Brigadier General Amer Mohamed Al Hassan said that Ethiopian militias backed by the Ethiopian army had begun attacking areas in Gadaref state in eastern Sudan on 26 May.

Rebels have killed at least 40 people in several attacks in Congo’s eastern Irumu territory, a local civil rights group says.
Members of the Allied Democratic Forces and an Islamic State-linked group known as MTM staged the attacks Tuesday in Samboko, Bandavilemba and Walese-Vukutu in Ituri province, the Centre for the Promotion of Peace, Democracy and Human Rights said in a statement Wednesday.

Two Al-Shabaab militants were on Wednesday killed after an operation carried out by regional Southwest forces, officials said, in the latest crackdown against the Somalia-based terrorists, who have caused havoc and mayhem in East Africa.
In a statement on Facebook, the ministry of interior said the regional forces engaged in a fierce gunfight against the militants in a clash that also left several injured on the outskirts of Dinsor town, which is frequented by the militants.

Afghan authorities plan to release 900 more Taliban prisoners Tuesday, as a rare cease-fire by the insurgents entered its third and last day.
The pause in fighting, which came into effect Sunday to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Fitr, was for the most part holding out across the country, officials said.
