Democratic Republic of the Congo: Cooperative for the Development of the Congo (CODECO) militia ambush kills 11 people in Ituri region

Gunmen killed 11 people including military and local officials in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, officials said Sunday, an ambush attributed to a militia accused of a string of massacres.

Two vehicles coming from Bunia, the capital of Ituri province, were attacked Saturday at the village of Matete, Djugu territory administrator Adel Alingi Mokuba said.

Syria: Dozens killed as Islamic State group clashes with government forces

Clashes between the Islamic State (IS) group and Russia-backed Syrian government forces and have killed more than 50 fighters on both sides in two days, a Britain-based war monitor said on Saturday.

Fighting and Russian air strikes in the central desert province of Homs since late Thursday have claimed the lives of 20 pro-government and 31 IS fighters, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Turkish warplanes on Friday, bombed the Shiladze and Hitouti areas of Duhok Governorate.

Our correspondent stated that the warplanes bombed the areas of Chiladze, the Hetute complex, and the Mount (Kurazhar) in Duhok governorate, indicated that the casualties were not known until now.

Colombia has captured eight National Liberation Army (ELN) rebels accused of taking part in a car bomb attack that killed 22 police cadets and derailed peace talks with the government, officials said on Thursday.

The explosion in 2019 was the worst attack in years in Colombia’s capital Bogota and resulted in President Ivan Duque dismissing the possibility of continuing nascent peace talks with the left-wing group, founded in 1964.

Sudan: People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-Nal-Hilu) led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu extends unilateral ceasefire for 7 months

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-Nal-Hilu) extended for seven-month the unilateral cessation of hostilities as they prepare to resume peace talks with Khartoum.

This extension was decided “As a gesture of goodwill towards a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese conflict, and in order to give the ongoing peace talks an opportunity for success,” said al-Hilu in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, on Wednesday.
