Democratic Republic of the Congo: 70 armed groups agree to end hostilities in South Kivu

About 70 armed groups active in South Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have pledged to end hostilities in areas under their control, local media reported on Thursday.

The announcement came on Wednesday at the end of a two-day dialogue held in Muresa, near the city of Bukavu, under the auspices of the Interprovincial Commission to Support the Awareness, Disarmament, Demobilization, and Community Reintegration Process (CIAP-DDRC).

Nigeria: Nigerian forces kill 16 Boko Haram terrorists

Nigerian troops killed 16 members of the Boko Haram terror group in the northeast, a top defense official said Friday.

According to a report by Anadolu Agency, defense Ministry spokesman John Enenche said terrorists were killed while others fled with wounds sustained during an air operation in Kassa Kura in Maiduguri Town.

Iraq: Turkey strikes two parts of Kurdistan Region’s Sidakan area

Turkey struck two sites in the Sidakan sub-district of Erbil province in the early hours of Friday, according to Sidakan town’s mayor.

Turkish artillery fired at the Sari Zraran area of Sidakan’s Khalifan village, and a Turkish drone struck the nearby area of Birkma, mayor Ihsan Chalabi told Rudaw on Friday.

Afghanistan: 23 soldiers and 31 militants killed in clashes in two Afghan provinces

At least 23 Afghan soldiers and 31 militants were killed and several fighters wounded in separate clashes in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar and western Badghis provinces during Wednesday night, as peace efforts being made, provincial officials confirmed on Thursday.

In Nangarhar province, 20 soldiers and 29 militants were killed and 15 security forces and 20 militants were wounded when security forces repelled militants’ attacks in Khogiani, Shirzad and Hesarak districts, provincial government spokesman Attaullah Khogiani told Xinhua.

Israel: Israeli army strikes Gaza in response to 15 rockets fired after peace deal with two Gulf Arab countries

The Israeli army struck back Wednesday at Hamas military targets in the Gaza Strip after militants fired 15 rockets amid the backdrop of the Jewish state’s signing of normalization accords with two Gulf Arab countries.

“Approximately 10 terror targets were struck, among the sites struck were a weapons and explosives manufacturing factory and a military compound used for training and rocket launching experiments by the Hamas terror organization,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
