At least five militants were killed and nine others injured in clashes in Gereshk district of southern Helmand province on Thursday, a statement from the National Army said.
The statement said a group of Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints early Thursday and troops retaliated, after which the rebels were forced to flee leaving five dead bodies and injuring nine others, Xinhua reported.

Turkey and Iran agreed to conduct joint operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and its Iran affiliate, the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), on Tuesday, state-run Anadolu news agency said.
Ankara and Tehran agreed to enhance existing cooperation mechanisms against the activities of the armed groups along common borders, including joint military operations, Anadolu said, without providing any further details.

More than 20 people were killed in clashes in Yemen’s northern province of al-Jawf late Sunday as government troops tried to reclaim positions lost months ago to Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
Yemen’s internationally recognized government has been fighting the Iran-allied insurgents since 2014 when Houthis seized much of the north, including the capital Sanaa.

Security officials in Tunisia say a police officer has been killed and another wounded in a knife attack in the coastal resort of Sousse.
Three assailants were shot dead after the incident, which is being described as a terrorist attack.
