Mozambique: Islamic State (IS) militants behead more than 50 people in Cabo Delgado province

More than 50 people have been beheaded in northern Mozambique by militant Islamists, state media report.

The militants turned a football pitch in a village into an “execution ground”, where they decapitated and chopped bodies, other reports said.

Libya: Warring factions to meet for peace talks

Representatives of Libya’s two warring factions will today begin talks to reach a political solution to the Second Libyan Civil War.

The internationally-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) are expected to reinforce the ceasefire signed on October 23 and to work toward a framework for establishing and electing members of a new national government in the next 18 months.

Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan retakes 16 more villages from Armenia’s occupation in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Azerbaijani army has liberated 16 more villages in the Upper Karabakh region from Armenia’s occupation.

“Victorious Armed Forces of Azerbaijan liberated Yuxari Veyselli, Yuxari Seyidehmedli, Gorgan, Uchunju Mahmudlu, Gachar and Divanalilar villages of Fuzuli, Yukhari Mezre and Yanarhach villages of Jabrayil, Gezyan, Balasoltanli and Merdanli villages of Gubadli, Beshdeli village of Zangilan, Garabulag and Moshmakhat villages of Khojaly, Atagut and Tsakuri of Khojavend,” Azerbaijan’s president said on Twitter on Saturday.

Ethiopia: Ethiopian air force bombs military facilities of Tigray People’s Liberation Front in northern region

Ethiopia’s air force bombed military targets in the restive northern Tigray region, escalating a conflict in Africa’s second-most populous nation that risks turning into a full-blown civil war.

The air strikes targeted arms depots in the Tigrayan capital, Mekelle, and other locations around the city, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on state television Friday. The military acted on information that the region’s ruling Tigray People’s Liberation Front planned to use rockets against federal forces and its assault on the region will continue, he said.

Yemen: 5 children injured in Houthi shelling on Taiz city

Five Yemeni children were injured yesterday in shelling carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi group on a residential neighbourhood in Yemen’s southwestern city of Taiz.

A military source told Anadolu Agency that the children were hit “while they were playing in the street,” adding that they were transferred to the hospital in a “serious condition”.
