Nigeria: 11 Nigerians killed by Boko Haram in Christmas Eve attack

Boko Haram jihadists killed at least 11 people, burnt a church and seized a priest on Christmas Eve in Nigeria’s restive northeast, local sources told AFP Friday.

Security agencies had in recent days warned of an increased risk of attack during the holiday season.

Sudan: Ethiopian forces resume attacks on Sudanese army as talks wrapped up with no deal

The Sudanese army came under a new attack from Ethiopian army and Amhara militias near the border strip, military sources told the Sudan Tribune on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the joint political committee between the two countries wrapped up meetings in Khartoum without tangible results on the border issue.

Puntland: Police foils terror attack to key port city of Bosaso

Police in Puntland, the northern Federal State of Somalia, foiled an attempted terrorists attack in the commercial city of Bosaso, which targeted innocent civilians and security officers, in the latest attempt by the militants to create mayhem and havoc in the country.

The would-be attack, police said, targeted some important buildings within the coastal city, which has been lately facing terror attacks both from the al-Qaeda linked group, the al-Shabaab and a group linked to the ISIS, and which has also bases in Bari mountains.

Central African Republic: Government says ex-president attempting coup d’état as rebels form new Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC)

Leaders of three main armed rebel groups occupying large areas of the Central African Republic announced a coalition ahead of next week’s elections, while the government accused former President Francois Bozize of an “attempted coup”.

The move to form a coalition, announced on Saturday, could further increase tensions already on the rise in the troubled country ahead of presidential and legislative votes on December 27, where the opposition fears massive electoral fraud.

Somalia: Somalia deploys more troops along Kenya’s border

More troops from the Somali National Army [SNA] have been deployed to the Gedo region, further causing anxiety among residents of the two countries, whose relationship has been fluid for several months now over political differences.

Tensions continued to rise in the border region according to multiple residents when the troops selected from among Gorgor unit arrived in Dolow near the Kenyan border amid an escalating diplomatic spat between Kenya and Somalia.
