Nigeria: Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) jihadists kill 5 soldiers and kidnap 35 civilians

In yet another attack on Nigeria, a group of jihadist gunmen attacked a military convoy and killed nearly five soldiers, military sources reported on Sunday.

Terrorism-hit Nigeria saw two different attacks. Almost 35 civilians were kidnapped and one woman was killed in the second attack which took place in the northeast Borno state.

Burma-Myanmar: Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) and Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) find the ways to reduce fighting in northern Shan State

The Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) have been holding talks to end the clashes in northern Shan State that have been going on since early December, the SSPP released a statement on December 15.

The statement said that both the SSPP and the RCSS were working to reduce tensions as much as possible and had held several rounds of talks. It said it hoped an agreement would be reached soon to end the fighting.

Afghanistan: Scores of militants killed by security forces in Ghazni and Kandahar

Nearly 60 Taliban insurgents have been killed in clashes with the security forces in Ghazni and Kandahar provinces, officials said in Friday.

Wahidullah Jumazada, spokesman for the Ghazni governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed a security check-post around midnight in Qarabagh district.

Syria: 11 killed in clash between Kurdish and Turkey-backed fighters in Syria

Clashes between Kurdish fighters and Turkey-backed opposition gunmen in northern Syria left at least 11 fighters dead in some of the most intense fighting in weeks between the two sides, an opposition war monitor and a Kurdish spokesman said Tuesday.

Exchange of fire and shelling between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and Turkey-backed opposition gunmen who identify as the Syrian National Army have not been uncommon since Turkish troops invaded parts of northern Syria in October of last year.

Yemen: Yemeni warring military factions complete redeployment

Forces loyal to Yemen’s government and other military units of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Wednesday completed redeployment plans in the country’s southern part under Saudi Arabia-led coalition’s supervision.

Local military officials said that “the process of redeployment warring troops was completed successfully under the auspices of observers of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition.”
