Indian and Chinese troops fought a new brawl on their contested Himalayan border that left injuries on both sides, officials said Monday, highlighting the fraught state of relations between the giant neighbours.
The fighting on Jan 20 came six months after a pitched battle which left at least 20 Indian troops dead as well as an unknown number of Chinese casualties.

Recent fighting between the military and the Karen National Union (KNU) has forced up to 1,000 villagers in Bago region’s Kyaukkyi township to flee their homes, according to local activists.
The Karen Youth Network (KYN) has reported that clashes that began in Kayin state late last year have spread to Bago region amid tensions over a road being built through KNU territory.

The Army’s 7th Infantry Division is mourning the death of a soldier who was killed on Friday (Jan. 22) during an encounter with fighters of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay (village) Lamag, Quirino town in Ilocos Sur.
In a statement, the Army command expressed its condolences to the family of Private Shame Reyes, who was killed in the 40-minute firefight.

Five Nigerien soldiers have been killed and four were reported missing in an operation against jihadists on the country’s southeastern frontier with Nigeria, the defence ministry said Thursday.
“Around 20 terrorists” were also killed in the fighting on Tuesday, the ministry said in a statement read on television.

Syrian state media claims at least four civilians were killed when Israeli warplanes fired several missiles in central Syria region of Hama early on Friday, adding that its air defence forces downed most of the missiles.
The state-run SANA news agency quoted an unnamed military official as saying Friday’s attack took place shortly before dawn when Israeli warplanes flew over neighbouring Lebanon.
