Rebels attacked two towns in the Central African Republic on Saturday as French warplanes flew over in an apparent attempt to deter an advance on the capital after a disputed election.
The attacks on Bouar, 440 km (275 miles) northwest of the capital and Grimari, 300 km northeast of Bangui, were the latest by a coalition of armed rebels backed by former president Francois Bozize.

Separatist fighters in Cameroon killed six people in a raid on an army post in the troubled English-speaking Northwest province, the government said Saturday.
The dawn raid on Friday involved “armed separatist groups” and claimed the lives of four soldiers and two civilians at Matazem, said a statement from communications minister and government spokesman Rene Emmanuel Sadi.

An attack on a village in northern Cameroon by Boko Haram jihadists on Friday left thirteen civilians, eight of them children.
A traditional chief and a police officer confirmed to AFP that the killing was done after a woman suicide bomber blew herself up.

At least six Yemenis were killed and seven others were injured in a Houthi artillery shelling in southern Yemen late Wednesday, the military said.
The shelling targeted a residential area in At-Ta’iziyah district, north of Taiz governorate, the Yemeni military said in its news website SeptemberNet.

The Sudanese army repulsed two attacks carried out by Ethiopian forces and managed to capture one of the attackers, in the latest military confrontations between the two countries.
The Sudanese army successfully recovered agricultural areas on the border with Ethiopia, ending over 26 years of occupation and exploitation tolerated by the former isolated regime of Omer al-Bashir.
