Philippines: 11 Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)-Karialan faction members surrender in Maguindanao

Eleven members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)-Karialan faction surrendered to government forces in Datu Piang town, Maguindanao, Saturday, the Western Mindanao Command reported Saturday.

“The 11 BIFF members surrendered to the troops of the 6th Infantry Battalion at Sitio Landing Fish, Barangay Buayan, Datu Piang,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

Afghanistan: Taliban kill 21 Afghan troops, warn of dangerous escalation if US breaches deal

Taliban insurgents have killed at least 21 government troops in new attacks in Afghanistan as U.S.-brokered peace talks between the two warring sides remain stalled.

The fighting comes as the United States is reviewing a February 2020 agreement with the Taliban, which required remaining American and allied forces to leave Afghanistan by May of this year.

Central African Republic: Government forces retake Bossembele key town from rebels

Forces loyal to the Central African Republic government have retaken a key town from rebels, the country’s prime minister said on Wednesday, as the UN said peacekeepers would maintain a “robust” posture.

Bossembele, around 150 kilometres northwest of the capital Bangui on a vital road artery, had been retaken on Tuesday by “elements of our armed forces and the allies”, Firmin Ngrebada wrote on Twitter.

Burma-Myanmar: Coup d’etat threatens ceasefire, Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) ethnic rebel leader says

Myanmar’s fragile ceasefire with several armed ethnic insurgent movements is in danger of unraveling after a military coup this week, a senior representative of a coalition of rebel groups told Reuters on Wednesday.

More than two dozen ethnic armed groups are active in Myanmar’s borderlands. Some have signed ceasefire agreements while others continue to wage conflicts that flare sporadically.

Afghanistan: Bombings in Kabul kill 2 people including cleric

A prominent cleric and his driver were killed in an explosion from a bomb stuck to their car, one of a series of bombings around Kabul on Tuesday that also wounded seven people.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani denounced the cleric’s death as a “terrorist attack on the dignity and bright future of Afghanistan.” No one immediately claimed responsibility for the Kabul attacks, which also wounded five people.
