Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia proposes ceasefire plan to Yemen’s Houthi rebels

Saudi Arabia has announced a plan to offer its rivals in Yemen’s long-running war a nationwide ceasefire under the auspices of the United Nations, the kingdom’s foreign minister said.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the kingdom’s foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, said the ceasefire proposed to the Houthi rebels is envisioned “for the entire conflict”, including allowing for the main airport in Yemen’s rebel-held capital, Sanaa, to reopen.

Turkey: First Turkish air strikes on Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Kurdish zone in Syria in 17 months

The Turkish air force conducted its first strikes in 17 months against a zone in north Syria held by Kurdish militia on Saturday night, according to a UK-based activist group.

“A Turkish fighter jet has struck military positions of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Saida village in Ain Issa countryside… which caused loud explosions,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Mali: Dozens of soldiers killed in attack on army base

At least 31 soldiers were killed in an attack in northern Mali this week, an army officer said Wednesday, in one of the deadliest assaults on the military this year.

Dozens of assailants on motorbikes and pickup trucks on Monday stormed a military post southwest of the town of Ansongo, near the borders with Burkina Faso and Niger, the army said on social media.

Saudi Arabia: Houthis claim to have launched drones in attack against Saudi Aramco in Riyadh

Earlier this week, one person was killed and eight others were injured in an airstrike launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen’s northeast.

Yemen’s Houthi movement announced on Friday that it had launched six armed drones targeting a Saudi Aramco facility in Riyadh. To date, the Saudi authorities have not confirmed the attack or any damage sustained as a result of it.

Afghanistan: At least 9 dead in helicopter crash after clashes with local militia

Nine security personnel were killed after an Afghan military helicopter was downed, likely by militia forces, in eastern Afghanistan early Thursday, signaling a drastic rift between the Afghan government and the regional forces supposedly under its control.

The fighting occurred in Wardak, a mountainous province that borders Kabul in the country’s east. There, militia forces led by Abdul Ghani Alipur, a local warlord with a spotty rights record, have been engaged in a tense, sometimes violent, standoff with government troops since January.
