Uganda: Army deploys more personnel in Zombo after attack of Co-operation for the Development of Congo (CODECO) rebels

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has stepped up security in Zombo district by deploying more personnel.

This comes days after fighters of Co-operation for the Development of Congo (CODECO) group were killed during an attack on an army detach in Zeu sub-county in Zombo.

Mali: Armed men have attempted to stab interim president Assimi Goita in mosque

Two armed men, including one who wielded a knife, attacked Mali’s interim President Assimi Goita on Tuesday in the Grand Mosque of Bamako in the country’s capital, said an Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalist who was at the scene.

The attack took place during prayers for the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha.

Philippines: 2 rebels killed, high-powered guns seized in Camarines Sur clash

Two suspected communist rebels were killed and 12 high-powered firearms were recovered in an encounter with the government troops in Sagñay town in Camarines Sur province on Monday morning.

Captain John Paul Belleza, Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division public affairs chief, said the police and the Army’s 83rd Infantry Battalion had a 30-minute firefight with at least 20 members of the New People’s Army in Barangay Bongalon at around 10:45 a.m.

Puntland: Foreign fighters killed in Somalia’s Puntland state

Al-Shabaab and IS foreign fighters have been killed and bases destroyed in security operation by Somali forces, Puntland authorities confirmed.

Speaking to the media, Puntland Security Minister, Abdisamad Galan said hundreds of soldiers mobilized in the region had successfully managed to kick the terrorists out of several villages in the region.

Syria: Government forces hit last rebel enclave killing 9 civilians

Syrian government rockets hit two villages in the last rebel stronghold in northwestern Syria on Thursday, killing at least nine civilians, including three children, rescue workers and a war monitor said.

The U.N. Children’s agency confirmed three children were killed, calling it a “terrifying sign” that violence is returning to the area that has been under a cease-fire for over a year.
