Russia: Russia captures Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk

Russia’s defence ministry said Tuesday that its forces had captured the eastern Ukrainian town of Selydove as Moscow’s troops advance closer to the key logistics hub of Pokrovsk.

The capture of the frontline town of Selydove located about 18 km (10 miles) southeast of Pokrovsk is the latest gain for Russia, which has taken large swathes of territory in the Donetsk region in recent months.

Israel: Israel launches air strikes against Iran

Israel has launched air strikes against Iran, including targets in Tehran, in the latest salvo in an escalating conflict between the regional foes that has stoked fears of an all-out war in the Middle East.

The Israel Defense Forces said it struck military facilities such as missile manufacturing plants and air defences during the attack in the early hours of Saturday. The assault was in retaliation for the missile barrage Iran fired at Israel three weeks ago.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Fighting breaks out between M23 rebels and Wazalendo militia

Clashes between M23 rebels and government-aligned militia in restive eastern Democratic Republic of Congo Sunday broke a fragile truce that had lasted several weeks, wounding 14 civilians, local sources said.

Local residents contacted by AFP in the troubled North Kivu region said that fighting broke out from 5:00 am (0300 GMT) between heavily armed M23 rebels and “Wazalendo” (“patriots” in Swahili) militias.

Ethiopia: Fighting between Ethiopian government forces and Fano rebels endangers Sudan refugees

Recent clashes between the Ethiopian government forces and the Amhara-based Fano militia have intensified in the north-west region of Ethiopia, putting thousands of Sudanese refugees at severe risk, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Thursday, Anadolu Agency reports.

The violence, which has escalated since September, has further jeopardised the safety of refugees who fled the conflict in Sudan, the rights group said in a report.

Gaza Strip: Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar killed in Gaza, Israel says

Israel said on Thursday it had killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the architect of last year’s October 7 attack which triggered the deadliest war in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Sinwar’s death is a pivotal moment in the year of fighting, delivering a severe blow to the Palestinian militant group and a symbolic victory to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
