Democratic Republic of the Congo: Congolese forces launch counter offensive to reclaim Masisi from M23 Rebels
The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), backed by local defense allies known as the Wazalendo, have mounted a significant counter-offensive aimed at recapturing Masisi-center from M23 rebels.
Heavy fighting erupted early Wednesday, with both light and heavy weapons fire reported around Kahongole Hill—a strategic vantage point that overlooks the administrative capital of Masisi Territory.
“FARDC’s immediate goal is to retake Kahongole Hill, which was seized by the rebels in the first days of the new year,” a local source told ChimpReports on Wednesday.
The control of this hill could be pivotal to reclaiming Masisi-center as it offers a commanding view of the entire area.
