Ismaël Wagué, Mali’s minister of national reconciliation, is in Gao to resume dialogue with armed groups in Northern Mali.

This trip comes at a time when former Azawad independence rebels may take up arms once more.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel attacks in east kill more than 60 people

Suspected Islamist militants have killed more than 60 people over five days of attacks on villages in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local residents said on Tuesday.

The assailants, believed to be rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), have targeted at least five villages, and the offensive was still ongoing, the residents told Reuters.

Senegal: Army launches operation against Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC) rebels

The Senegalese army announced on Sunday night that it had launched an operation against rebels in Casamance, the scene of an old conflict in the south of the country.

This offensive is launched less than two months after the death of four Senegalese soldiers and the capture of seven others by the rebels in the border area with Gambia. The seven soldiers, members of the West African military mission in the Gambia (Ecomig), have since been released.

Mozambique: Jihadists captured by army say insurgency weakening

Rare interviews with captured members of a jihadist group terrorising northern Mozambique point to low morale in their ranks and to an insurgency that is losing steam in the face of Rwandan forces.

The Rwandan army late last month let journalists interview some of the fighters that it had captured since launching operations in the troubled region last July.

Burkina Faso: Coup d’etat, military says it has seized power and ousted president Roch Kabore

Burkina Faso’s army announced it took control of the country on Monday, deposing President Roch Kabore, dissolving the government and parliament, suspending the constitution and shuttering its borders.

An army officer, along with more than a dozen soldiers, made the announcement on state television in an address to the nation on Monday night.
