Somalia: 4 al-Shabaab terrorists killed and 21 captured by AMISOM forces

At least four al-Shabaab terrorists were killed and over 21 others captured during operations in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region, African Union peacekeepers said Thursday.

Military operations against the al-Shabaab terrorist group were conducted by Burundian forces serving under the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali national army.

Chad: Dozens killed in farmer and semi-nomadic herders clashes

At least thirty-five people were killed in clashes between farmers and semi-nomadic herders in southeastern Chad, a region where friction between the two groups is common, according to Chadian authorities.

The fighting occurred in the Salamat province, where farmers were attacked when they encountered an illegal roadblock, provincial secretary-general Mara Maad said on Wednesday. In the attack against the farmers, one of them was killed and two were injured.

Nigeria: Gunmen kill 1 student and abduct 40 others between students and teachers

Gunmen have attacked a school in Nigeria’s north-central Niger State, killing at least one student and abducting more than 40 people including students and teachers, according to an official, teacher, and a prefect.

The gunmen, thought to be bandits, shot dead one student during the incident early Wednesday at the Government Science College, Kagara.

Sudan warns Ethiopia against troop deployment in its territory

The foreign ministry in Khartoum on Sunday said Ethiopian army forces have penetrated into its Sudanese territory and warned against the consequence of the repeated violation of Sudan’s territorial integrity.

In a sign of growing tensions between countries over al-Fashqa area, recent reports from the border area between the two countries spoke about troop build-up on the Ethiopian side of the border while the Sudanese army fortified its positions and built roads.

Somalia: Car bomb explodes near presidential palace in Mogadishu

At least one person was killed and 10 people were injured in a car bomb that exploded Saturday morning near the Somalian presidential palace in Mogadishu, police and hospital officials said.

“At 9:10 AM, a terrorist car loaded with explosives … rammed into a checkpoint near the Sayidka Junction. The security forces opened fire at the car while speeding to the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu,” a police statement read.
