Sudan: Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-Nal-Hilu) extends unilateral ceasefire for 5 months

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-Nal-Hilu) extended for five-month the unilateral cessation of hostilities.

”As a gesture of goodwill towards a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese conflict, and in order to give the peace an opportunity for success, I, Commander Abdalaziz Adam Alhilu, Chairman & C-in-C SPLM/A-N hereby, declare the extension of the unilateral Cessation of Hostilities (COH) for five (5) months in all areas under the control of the SPLM/A-N,” reads a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Sunday.

Central African Republic: Government forces retake Bossembele key town from rebels

Forces loyal to the Central African Republic government have retaken a key town from rebels, the country’s prime minister said on Wednesday, as the UN said peacekeepers would maintain a “robust” posture.

Bossembele, around 150 kilometres northwest of the capital Bangui on a vital road artery, had been retaken on Tuesday by “elements of our armed forces and the allies”, Firmin Ngrebada wrote on Twitter.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab armed group attacks hotel in Mogadishu

Somalia’s al-Shabaab armed group has launched a car bomb attack on a hotel in the capital, Mogadishu, before fighters stormed inside, according to police.

A vehicle loaded with explosives crashed into the entrance gate of the Afrik hotel, near Mogadishu’s strategic K-4 junction, on Sunday afternoon, police spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali said.

Mali: 100 jihadists killed in joint offensive by France and Mali armies in the centre of the country

A hundred jihadists were killed this month in a joint Franco-Malian offensive in the West African country’s lawless centre, the Malian army said Tuesday.

“One hundred terrorists were neutralised, about 20 captured and several motorbikes and war equipment were seized” during the operation with France’s Barkhane force, which aims to eradicate jihadists in the Sahel region, the Malian army said on its website.

Somalia: Somali troops and Jubaland regional forces clash ahead of elections

Heavy fighting has broken out in the town of Bulo Hawo between Somali forces and those from the federal territory of Jubbaland, which borders Kenya, ahead of general elections slated for next month.

In a statement, Somalia’s information ministry early on Monday accused what it said were Kenya-funded rebels of crossing into the border town and attacking Somali forces.
