Ethiopia: Ethiopia orders military offensive after army base seized by Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF)

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has ordered a military offensive, after an army base was taken over by forces loyal to the regional government of Tigray.

Mr Abiy accused the region’s ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), of launching the attack.

Ethiopia: Clashes between militias of 2 Somali and Afar Ethiopian States kill 27 people amid border dispute

Clashes between two Ethiopian states that have long disputed their border have killed at least 27 people, a government statement said, as the country faces surging ethnic violence.

The 27 were killed “due to conflicts along the borders of Somali and Afar”, the statement said. Militias from the two eastern states have clashed before over their disputed boundaries.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Mai-Mai Mazembe militia clashes with army

The Congolese military on Sunday destroyed bases of Maï-Maï Mazembe militia in Kanzanza on the west coast of Lake Edward in Lubero territory of North Kivu.

This new FARDC attack against the late Kitete’s Mai-Mai Mazembe was launched early this Sunday morning in Kanzana.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: At least 19 killed in armed clashes between militias

At least 19 people have been killed over several days of clashes between militias in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to experts and a local official.

The fighting between rival militias “left 19 dead including two civilians and 17 combatants”, one of the experts in the Hauts Plateaux region told AFP on Friday.

Libya: Warring Libyan factions sign a permanent ceasefire in Geneva

Libya’s warring factions have signed an agreement on a permanent ceasefire, after five days of talks in Geneva.

The deal between military leaders from Libya’s government, and those from opposition forces lead by General Khalifa Haftar, was brokered by the UN.
