Fighting between DR Congo’s regular army and a militia force has claimed 11 lives and breached a peace deal in the conflict-plagued northeast of the country, according to UN sources.
In the violence overnight Wednesday, three soldiers, six militia fighters, and two civilians were killed in Ituri province, the UN Radio Okapi reported.

The Sudanese army on Monday said Darfur holdout rebels attacked one of its positions in Jebel Marra area of Central Darfur, but the group denied the accusation.
Fighters of the Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdel Wahid al-Nur (SLM-AW) attacked our forces in Baldong area of Jebel Marra, said a statement by the Military Media Centre in Khartoum.

Chadian soldiers killed 20 Boko Haram jihadists and freed 12 civilians, including nine children, kidnapped in the Lake Chad area where several countries’ borders meet, the government said Friday.
The jihadist group, which originated in Nigeria in 2009, has established bases on islets dotting Lake Chad, a vast swampy expanse on the border between Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

Somalia-based al-Shabaab militants have renewed efforts to retake the historical city of Dhusamareb, the regional administrative capital of Galmadug, top officials said, following the most recent unsuccessful raid in the east of the city, which was met by resistance from government forces.
For the last couple of months, the Somali National Army [SNA], AU mission troops, and the US Africa Command have been fighting to dislodge the militants from Central and southern Somalia, which have for a long time been under the authoritarian rule of the Al-Qaeda linked group.

About 70 armed groups active in South Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have pledged to end hostilities in areas under their control, local media reported on Thursday.
The announcement came on Wednesday at the end of a two-day dialogue held in Muresa, near the city of Bukavu, under the auspices of the Interprovincial Commission to Support the Awareness, Disarmament, Demobilization, and Community Reintegration Process (CIAP-DDRC).
