Democratic Republic of the Congo: Cooperative for the Development of the Congo (CODECO) militia ambush kills 11 people in Ituri region

Gunmen killed 11 people including military and local officials in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, officials said Sunday, an ambush attributed to a militia accused of a string of massacres.

Two vehicles coming from Bunia, the capital of Ituri province, were attacked Saturday at the village of Matete, Djugu territory administrator Adel Alingi Mokuba said.

Sudan: People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-Nal-Hilu) led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu extends unilateral ceasefire for 7 months

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu (SPLM-Nal-Hilu) extended for seven-month the unilateral cessation of hostilities as they prepare to resume peace talks with Khartoum.

This extension was decided “As a gesture of goodwill towards a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese conflict, and in order to give the ongoing peace talks an opportunity for success,” said al-Hilu in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, on Wednesday.

Nigeria: Nigerian forces conduct air strikes against Boko Haram

Nigeria’s air force on Monday said it conducted air strikes against Boko Haram on 27 June in the northeast region of the country, neutralizing the militants.

A statement from the Nigerian Defence Forces said the attack was carried out after acquiring intelligence that the bases in Warshale in the Northern part of Borno State were being used to launch terror attacks.

South Sudan: Thousands of people flee intense fighting in Pibor

Thousands of people have fled a fresh wave of intercommunal clashes in South Sudan‘s eastern region of Pibor, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said Thursday, adding it had suspended medical activities after its staff were forced to flee into the bush.

Brutal fighting has taken place between rival communities in the area in recent months, with clashes in May leaving over 200 dead, including an MSF staff member, the charity said in a statement. The latest violence erupted on June 15, it said.

Burkina Faso: Army says it has destroyed 2 jihadist bases

Burkina Faso’s security forces said on Tuesday they had destroyed two jihadist bases in the north and east of the country and arrested two suspects near the border with the Ivory Coast.

A gendarmerie unit on Saturday “dismantled a terrorist base” near the eastern town of Tanwalbougou, the armed forces chief of staff said in a weekly bulletin.
