Nigeria: Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) jihadists kill 6 and abduct 5 in northeast

Around 30 fighters from the ISWAP group took control of the highway near Gasarwa village, 100 kilometres north of the Borno State capital, Maiduguri.

IS-aligned jihadists killed six people and abducted five others in northeast Nigeria on December 22, after blocking a major highway and singling out security officials, aid workers and Christians, witnesses said.

Mali: French forces have killed 33 militants

French forces have killed 33 militants in an operation in Mali, according to President Emmanuel Macron.

Mr Macron made the announcement on a visit to Ivory Coast, where he reiterated France’s commitment to fighting jihadists in the region.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Army captures and repatriates 300 MRCD Ubumwe Rwandan rebels

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s army captured more than 291 Rwandan rebels and handed them over to authorities in the neighboring nation.

The fighters belong to MRCD Ubumwe, a political group seeking to oust Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Some of its leaders include former Rwandan Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungu, who’s in exile.

South Sudan: National Salvation Front (NAS) rebel group accuses army of multiple attacks

The National Salvation Front (NAS), an hold-out armed group in South Sudan, has accused pro-government troops of attacking its positions in parts of Yei River State.

In a statement issued on Monday, NAS claimed the South Sudan army (SSPDF) attacked its positions in Lasu payam and Mitika areas on Friday, in violation of the cessation of hostilities agreement.

Nigeria: Boko Haram jihadists kill 19 Fulani herders in clashes

Boko Haram jihadists gunned down 19 cattle herders Saturday in northeast Nigeria, civilian militia sources and residents told AFP on Sunday.

Ethnic Fulani herders, besieged by a spate of armed attacks targeting their cattle, pursued Boko Haram, sparking a fierce gunfight outside Fuhe village, near Ngala close to the border with Cameroon.
