Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC on Sunday announced the immediate end of a two-month unilateral truce and renewed its call for a bilateral truce to hold peace talks with the government “in a tranquil environment.”
While talking to press in the Cuban capital Havana, the leader of the FARC’s negotiating team, “Ivan Marquez,” said that “with pain in our heart we must admit that we return to the time of military warfare that nobody wants.”

Colombia’s armed forces claim to have killed at least 20 FARC guerrillas in the southwestern province of Nariño, reported local media Monday.
Military raids on insurgent camps in rural Nariño have left at least 20 guerrillas from FARC’s “Mariscal Sucre” column dead, according to General Leonardo Barrero, head of the army’s Joint Southwest Command.
Among the dead was a FARC commander known as “Guillermo el Pequeño”, Barrero told reporters. The general alleged that Guillermo el Pequeño was a 25-year veteran in the insurgency, responsible for “dozens” of cases of murder, extortion and drug trafficking in Nariño.

Leftist rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have announced a two-month unilateral ceasefire. The announcement was made on the first day of peace talks with Colombian government officials in Cuba.
Colombia’s FARC rebels announced a two-month ceasefire on Monday as they opened negotiations with the government in an attempt to restore peace after nearly half a century of war.
FARC spokesman Luciano Marin, known under the alias “Ivan Marquez,” said the group will halt all military operations beginning at midnight on Monday until January 20.

At least six Colombian police officers have been killed and seven others injured in an attack by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), regional police sources say.
The attack was carried out on Monday afternoon in Padilla town in the Cauca state where armed rebels killed six motorcycle police officers, said country’s police director Gen. Jose Roberto Leon.
Those injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, he added.

Five soldiers have been killed by FARC rebels in the south of Colombia, a regional army commander said Saturday.
According to the commander of the 27th Jungle Brigade, the five men were killed and three more were injured by a roadside bomb detonated by guerrillas.
