Burma-Myanmar: Kachin Independence Army (KIA) says more clashes likely despite military junta’s ceasefire announcement

Clashes are likely to continue in Kachin state even after the junta unilaterally announced a ceasefire on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has said.

The coup regime claimed it would cease all military operations from Thursday in order to hold negotiations with ethnic armed groups, but KIA information officer General Naw Bu said the Myanmar military had not stopped its activities in Kachin.

Burma-Myanmar: Arakan Army and its allies set to resume fight against Burmese army over civilian killings

The Arakan Army (AA) and its two partner ethnic armed groups in the Brotherhood Alliance said they are ready to join forces with all ethnic people in fighting against the Myanmar military regime if its brutal killing of anti-coup protesters continues.

The tripartite Brotherhood Alliance, which groups the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA); Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA); and the AA, condemned the military junta on Monday after the civilian death toll from its lethal crackdown on anti-regime protesters rose to at least 510 nationwide.

Indonesia: 14 injured in Palm Sunday suicide bomb attack on church

At least 14 people have been injured after a suicide bomb attack on a church in Indonesia on Palm Sunday.

The attack happened at the Roman Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral in Makassar, on Sulawesi, at about 10:30 local time (03:30 GMT).

Burma-Myanmar: At least 114 killed in deadliest day since start of protests

At least 114 civilians were killed across Myanmar on Saturday, according to a tally by the independent Myanmar Now news outlet, as the military junta continued to crack down on peaceful protests.

The killings in 44 towns and cities across the country would represent the bloodiest day of protests since a military coup last month.

Philippines: Philippine troops kill 16 Muslim militants in clashes

The Philippine military said Wednesday that its troops have killed at least 16 Muslim rebels aligned with the Islamic State group in a series of clashes over the last week that have displaced thousands of villagers in a southern province.

The heaviest fighting began March 17 and lasted four days in Maguindanao province’s Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, regional military spokesman Lt. Col. John Paul Baldomar said. He said troops killed 14 militants, from both the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the Dawlah Islamiyah groups, and wounded another 25.
