India and China clash again on Himalayan border

Indian and Chinese troops fought a new brawl on their contested Himalayan border that left injuries on both sides, officials said Monday, highlighting the fraught state of relations between the giant neighbours.

The fighting on Jan 20 came six months after a pitched battle which left at least 20 Indian troops dead as well as an unknown number of Chinese casualties.

Burma-Myanmar: Hundreds flee latest clashes between army and Karen National Union (KNU) fighters

Recent fighting between the military and the Karen National Union (KNU) has forced up to 1,000 villagers in Bago region’s Kyaukkyi township to flee their homes, according to local activists.

The Karen Youth Network (KYN) has reported that clashes that began in Kayin state late last year have spread to Bago region amid tensions over a road being built through KNU territory.

Philippines: 1 soldier killed in clash with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Ilocos Sur

The Army’s 7th Infantry Division is mourning the death of a soldier who was killed on Friday (Jan. 22) during an encounter with fighters of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay (village) Lamag, Quirino town in Ilocos Sur.

In a statement, the Army command expressed its condolences to the family of Private Shame Reyes, who was killed in the 40-minute firefight.

Afghanistan: Security forces airstrikes kill 6 terrorists in northern province of Kunduz

Six terrorists have been killed and four others injured after the security forces’ warplanes struck a group of Taliban terrorists in northern Kunduz province, the Afghan army said in a statement released on Wednesday.

A group of Taliban terrorists gathered in the Timorian area of the restive Dasht-e-Archi district on Tuesday afternoon to storm security checkpoints, but the warplanes bombed the insurgents in pre-emptive action, killing six and wounding four others.

India: Indian troops kill Kashmir rebels but families say they were innocent

Families of two teenage boys and a young man killed in India-administered Kashmir by Indian troops during an alleged firefight have denied they were rebels – a rare protest in the disputed Himalayan region.

Police said the trio were killed in a 20-hour gun battle on Wednesday in a house on the outskirts of the region’s main city of Srinagar.
