Philippines: 7 Abu Sayyaf fighters killed in clash with army in Sulu

About seven suspected members of Philippine armed group Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) have been killed following an encounter at sea with the military in the country’s southern province of Sulu.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command said an “all-out offensive” was launched early on Tuesday against the group of fighters near Sulare Island, which lies west of the ASG’s stronghold on Jolo.

Afghanistan: ISIS claims responsibility for Kabul university attack that killed 22 students

ISIS claimed responsibility for Monday’s deadly, hours-long rampage at Afghanistan’s Kabul University — as the official death toll rose to 22 and maybe more, according to reports.

The terror group’s propaganda arm said it was behind the attack, which was carried out by two gunmen who stormed the campus after a suicide bomber struck around 11 a.m. local time, AFP said.

Russia: Russia agrees to aid Armenia if Azerbaijan conflict spread to its territory

Russia agreed Saturday to aid Armenia if Azerbaijan conflict expands beyond Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenian territory.

In a statement, Russian Foreign Ministry said it will offer “all the necessary assistance” if the Azeri clashes spill into it territory under the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the countries, which dates back to August 29, 1997.

Nagorno-Karabakh: President of separatist region said that Azerbaijan forces closing in on key town of Shusha

The leader of Armenian separatists in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region said Thursday that Azerbaijani forces had advanced to within a few kilometres of the key town of Shusha.

“The enemy is several kilometres from Shushi, five kilometres (three miles) at most,” separatist president Arayik Harutyunyan said in a video on Facebook.

Afghanistan: 5 Taliban militants killed in clashes with Afghan army in Zabul

At least five Taliban insurgents, including a commander who was among the prisoners released by officials in Kabul under the US-brokered deal, were killed in the course of clashes in the southern Zabul province, local police chief Hekmatullah Kochi said on Wednesday.

“Ahmad Shah, a Taliban commander who had recently been released among 5,000 Taliban prisoners, was shot dead yesterday between the Shahr-e Safa district and the capital [of the Zabul province], Qalat-e Gilzay,” Kochi said in a press release, adding that two other Taliban fighters were left injured.
