At least 13 civilians were killed and 42 more injured after a car bomb explosion outside the main prison in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
The car bombing happened shortly after 6:30pm on Sunday when gunmen entered the compound and opened intense fire, followed by heavy fighting, which enabled many prisoners to escape.

Afghanistan accused Pakistan on Friday of killing 15 civilians during clashes at a border crossing where crowds were jostling to cross for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
On Pakistan`s side, hospital officials reported seven deaths from the flare-up between the Asian neighbours who are U.S. allies but often trade accusations of backing militants.

Ten combatants of the Daesh-inspired Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed in ongoing clashes with military troops in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao, the Army here said Thursday.
“Military pursuit operations are ongoing but locals confirmed that the retreating BIFF radicals have carted away their dead comrades,” Lt. Col. Anhouvic Atilano, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (6ID) spokesperson, told reporters here.

Afghanistan’s Taliban militants announced on Tuesday that they will observe a three-day ceasefire for the Muslim religious holiday of Eid Al-Adha, starting Friday, offering some respite from weeks of increasing violence.
Disagreements over a prisoner exchange and the violence have delayed peace talks between an Afghan government-mandated committee and the Taliban, as envisaged in an agreement signed between the US and the group in Doha in February.

At least two Maoists including a woman were gunned down during an exchange of fire with a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) in a dense forest in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Thursday.
Based on the tiff off, the security personnel launched combing operation in the forest under Tumudibandha police limits in the district. As the security personnel approached their hideout, the Maoists opened fire and a gun battle ensued, leading to the death of the two rebels.
