The Bangsamoro regional police and the military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) have launched operations to identify and arrest the Abu Sayyaf Group bandits that encountered and killed 11 Army soldiers and wounded 14 others in Patikul, Sulu last Friday.
Westmincom commander Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said yesterday that the 11 slain troopers were members of the Delta Company of the Army’s 21st Infantry Battalion that is part of the units trying to clear Sulu of Abu Sayyaf terrorists. Officials said 14 other soldiers were wounded.

The Myanmar army is carrying out “almost daily air strikes and shelling” in the restive Rakhine and Chin states amid a surge in clashes with fighters, with reports of at least 32 civilians killed in recent weeks, according to the United Nations human rights office.
The Arakan Army, an armed group seeking greater autonomy for ethnic Rakhine people, has been battling government troops for more than a year.

At least nine Afghan soldiers were killed in a Taliban assault on their check post in Logar province bordering the capital Kabul Wednesday night, an official said.
Dedar Lawang, spokesperson for the provincial governor, told Anadolu Agency the incident took place in the Sark district of the province.

Indonesian security forces shot and killed three separatist rebels who were suspected in an attack that killed a New Zealander near the world’s largest gold mine in the easternmost province of Papua, police said Saturday.
Clashes near the Grasberg copper and gold mine began Feb. 29 and had left two security personnel and four rebels dead. On March 30, eight gunmen shot and killed New Zealand miner Graeme Thomas Wall when he and six employees of PT Freeport Indonesia were in a parking lot at the company’s office in the restive province.

Afghan forces announced they have arrested the leader of the country’s ISIL (ISIS) affiliate along with 19 other fighters.
Two high-ranking commanders were among those arrested in addition to the leader of the Islamic State of the Khorasan Province (ISKP), Abdullah Orokzai, also known as Aslam Farooqi, a statement by the Afghan intelligence agency National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Saturday.
