Burma-Myanmar: Military junta deploys more troops for offensive in Karenni State

Fighting is raging again in Kayah (Karenni) State after around 2,000 junta troops launched a large-scale offensive in late February a few weeks after Myanmar military regime declared martial law in Bawlake, Hpruso, Demoso and Shadaw townships.

Junta troops came through Shan State’s Pinlaung, which borders the regime’s seat of power in Naypyitaw to the west. Fighting has flared in Pekon, just southeast of Pinlaung.

Burma-Myanmar: 35 military junta forces killed in 3 days of resistance attacks

At least 35 Myanmar junta troops including allied Pyu Saw Htee militia were killed in the last three days as People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) and an ethnic armed organization (EAO) hit regime targets across the country.

Deadly clashes were reported in Magwe, Sagaing and Mandalay regions and Mon State.

Burma-Myanmar: Over 20 military junta forces killed in 3 days of resistance attacks

At least 21 Myanmar junta forces including pro-regime militia members were killed in the last three days as People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) stepped up their attacks on regime targets across the country.

In one case, PDF battalions of Myanmar’s civilian National Unity Government (NUG) shelled the bases of three military battalions in northern Shan State.

Indonesia: West Papua Liberation Army (WPLA) separatist rebels take New Zealand pilot hostage in Papua

Separatist rebels set fire to a small plane carrying six people after it landed at a remote airport in Indonesia’s restive Papua province and took its pilot, a New Zealand citizen, hostage early Tuesday, police and rebels said.

Rebel spokesperson Sebby Sambom said independence fighters from the West Papua Liberation Army, the military wing of the Free Papua Organization, stormed the plane shortly after it landed in Paro in Nduga, a mountainous district.

Pakistan: Mosque suicide bomber kills 59 people and wounds over 150, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack

A suicide bomber struck a crowded mosque inside a police compound in Pakistan on Monday, causing the roof to collapse and killing at least 59 people and wounding more than 150 others, officials said.

Most of the casualties were police officers. It was not clear how the bomber was able to slip into the walled compound, which houses the police headquarters in the northwestern city of Peshawar and is itself located in a high-security zone with other government buildings.
