As many as 265 militants belonging to different proscribed organisations have abandoned their armed struggle against the state and handed over their weapons to the government while announcing plans to join mainstream politics for the development of the country.
The militants, along with their commanders, laid down their arms in a ceremony held at a lawn of the Balochistan Assembly on Tuesday.

Taliban attacks across two western Afghan provinces have left at least 12 Afghan police officers dead, officials say.
In the province of Farah, provincial council member Khair Mohammad Noorzai said at least seven Afghan police officers were killed after militants attacked a check post early on September 17.

Government forces have killed five rebels during a gun battle in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, triggering violent anti-India protests in the disputed Himalayan region.
Indian troops laid a siege around a southern village in Qazigund area overnight on a tip that militants were hiding there, police said.

International human rights groups support the UN report call for the Burma military to be investigated by the International Criminal Court.
The UN report accuses the Burma military of genocide against the Rohingya living in Rakhine state and said the military were “killing indiscriminately, gang-raping women, assaulting children and burning entire villages.”

Afghan officials said on Monday a Tajik or Russian aircraft had bombed a northeastern Afghan border district during a clash between gunmen and Tajik border guards, but officials in both Tajikistan and Russia denied that they had done so.
The attackers were able to flee and an investigation is underway, added Radmanish.
