Nagorno-Karabakh: Armed forces of breakaway Artsakh Republic surrender weapons and military equipment to Azerbaijani military

The armed forces of the breakaway Republic of Artsakh, established in Nagorno-Karabakh with the support of the Armenian government, have started transferring their weapons and military equipment to the Azerbaijani army, as stipulated by the cease-fire agreement reached by Baku and Yerevan on September 20.

On September 19, Baku launched a massive strike on Nagorno-Karabakh, an enclave of Azerbaijan predominantly populated by ethnic Armenians, using artillery and combat drones but describing the attack as a “local anti-terrorist operation.”

Niger: Niger military accuses France of deploying forces with view to intervention

Relations with France, Niger’s former colonial power, degraded after Paris stood by ousted president Mohamed Bazoum following the July coup.

“France continues to deploy its forces in several ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) countries as part of preparations for an aggression against Niger, which it is planning in collaboration with this community organisation,” Niger’s regime spokesman Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane said on Saturday.

Russia: Wagner group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin dies in plane crash in Russia

Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a plane that crashed in Russia’s Tver region on Wednesday, according to the press service of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency.

Ten people were killed in the crash near the town of Kuzhenkino, including Prigozhin.

Ukraine: Putin’s forces strike eastern towns after Kyiv makes gains in Bakhmut

Ukrainian forces have made incremental gains in blood-stained Bakhmut, provoking a wave of revenge attacks from Vladimir Putin’s forces.

Deputy defence minister, Hanna Maliar, said the Ukrainian military managed to retake nearly two square miles during the past week around the ruined eastern city of Bakhmut.

Armenia: Prime Minister says war with Azerbaijan very likely unless peace treaty signed

“So long as a peace treaty has not been signed and such a treaty has not been ratified by the parliaments of the two countries, of course, a (new) war (with Azerbaijan) is very likely,” Pashinyan was quoted as saying.

Pashinyan presided over an Armenian defeat in 2020 in a war over the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, during which Armenian-backed separatists lost large amounts of territory in and around the enclave.
