Egyptian intelligence repeatedly told Israel that the situation in the Gaza Strip could “explode”, warnings that went unheeded before the deadly Hamas assault on the Jewish state, according to two officials familiar with the matter.
The warnings were not hard intelligence about a specific attack, they said. Egypt instead relayed concerns that “matters could explode because of the political and humanitarian situation in Gaza”, one of the people said. The other called it a “general warning”.

Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas Movement, launched hundreds of rockets towards the city of Ashkelon on Tuesday evening in response to the Israeli mass displacement of Palestinian citizens from their homes in the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement on Tuesday, al-Qassam Brigades said that it will continue to target Ashkelon until all its inhabitants are displaced if Israel does not stop its policy of forcibly displacing Palestinian citizens in Gaza.

The Israel Defence Force has officially declared a ‘state of war’ after Hamas fired 5,000 rockets against Israel as they announced the commencement of “Operation Al-Aqsa Storm” on Saturday.
“A number of terrorists have infiltrated into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

Fighting between Syrian opposition factions in Aleppo province this week have left one dead and two injured, amid another fierce battle between Kurdish-led groups and Arab tribes in eastern Syria.
Intense intra-rebel clashes erupted in the Third Corps of the pro-Turkish Syrian National Army rebel group between the Northern Storm Brigade (NSB) and the new 37th Division, led by Abu Al-Az Ariha, a source told The New Arab’s Arabic-language edition, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

A suspected al-Qaeda attack in southern Yemen has killed a military commander and three soldiers from a secessionist group, security officials and a witness said.
Commander Abd al-Latif al-Sayyid and the three fighters from the Security Belt Forces, an armed group loyal to Yemen’s secessionist Southern Transitional Council, were killed in an explosion while travelling in a convoy through southern Abyan governorate, the three officials and the witness said.
