Syria’s military has begun recruiting troops from its own ranks to fight alongside Russian forces in Ukraine, promising payments of $3,000 a month – a sum up to 50 times a Syrian soldier’s monthly salary.
Enlistment notices have been posted on regime linked websites in recent days, including profiles linked to the 4th Division, one of Bashar al-Assad’s core units. One such advert states that troops who sign up will be fighting in Ukraine.

Daesh cells “attacked a military bus” in the Palmyra desert, “killing 15 soldiers and wounding 18 others”, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

At least 10 soldiers were killed on Tuesday in heavy fighting between pro-government Yemeni troops and Houthi militants in the southern province of Dhalea, a military officer told Xinhua.
The intense confrontations broke out after “scores of Houthi fighters launched an armed attack and attempted to advance into key areas in the province,” said the source on condition of anonymity.

Kurdish-led forces in the northeastern Syrian city of Hasakah said on Monday that last week’s clashes at a detention centre costs the lives of just under 500 people, including four civilians, 77 prison staff and 374 prisoners.
Announcing the death toll at a press conference on Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that the heavy fighting since Islamic State group (IS) militants first attacked the prison in the Ghwayran neighbourhood had seen them lose 40 fighters.

The Syrian Democratic Forces say they’ve regained full control of al-Sina’a prison in Hasaka city after 500 Islamic State militants gave themselves up following clashes in some buildings.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regained full control of al-Sina’a prison in Syria’s northeastern city of Hasaka on Wednesday, spokesman Farhad Shami said in a tweet, a week after a breakout by Islamic State prisoners left dozens dead.
