The Iran-backed Houthi military offensive on Yemen’s central city of Marib has tapered off as the rebels have suffered heavy casualties, defections and stiff resistance from Yemen’s army and allied tribesmen, three military sources told Arab News.
Houthis have been mounting a major offensive on the city of Marib since February in a bid to seize control of the government’s last bastion in the northern half of the country, which contains rich oil reserves, gas fields and big electricity stations.

Israeli warplanes launched a fresh round of massive airstrikes in Gaza on Monday as the most serious conflict in years entered a second week and international calls for a ceasefire mounted.
Dozens of Israeli jets bombed more than nine miles of Hamas’ tunnel system in Gaza overnight and targeted nine residences Monday that the Israeli military said belonged to commanders from the Palestinian militant group.

Palestinian militant group Hamas has confirmed that its Gaza City commander was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday.
Bassem Issa was the highest-ranking military figure in Hamas to be killed by Israel since 2014 and it marks the first time the militant group has acknowledged the death of one of its fighters during this latest round of fighting.

A barrage of Hamas rockets sparked air raid sirens in Tel Aviv hours after an Israeli airstrike hit a high-rise building in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said it had fired a total of 130 rockets on Tuesday, some of which hit homes in southern Israel, killing two women. A total of 28 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, including 10 children.
