The month of May has witnessed a resurgence in Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) activities across Syria, with the terrorist group launching constant attacks against both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Over the course of May, the Islamic State has taken advantage of the coronavirus crisis to launch attacks on installations, economic sites, and military posts, often engaging in brief battles before disappearing into the vast Syrian desert.

Iraqi intelligence yesterday confirmed the capture of a high ranking Daesh leader who was a potential successor to the slain former leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.
In a statement, the Iraqi Intelligence Service announced: “Today, the terrorist named Nasser Al-Qirdash, the candidate to succeed the criminal [Abu Bakr] Al-Baghdadi, the leader of Daesh in Iraq and Syria, has been arrested.”

More than a dozen people have reportedly been killed as fighting between pro-government forces and southern separatists in Yemen’s Abyan province entered a sixth consecutive day.
“Fourteen fighters, including 10 pro-government soldiers, were killed on Saturday,” a government military official told AFP news agency on condition of anonymity.

Yemen’s internationally-recognised government has said its forces will confront an “armed rebellion” by United Arab Emirates-backed separatists in the south, amid growing concerns over the opening up of a new front in the country’s long-running war during the coronavirus pandemic.
On April 25, the Southern Transitional Council (STC) declared self-rule in the port city of Aden and nearby areas, threatening to renew conflict with the Saudi-backed government, its nominal ally in a military coalition assembled by Saudi Arabia in 2015 to fight Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

A government military source announced on Thursday that a Houthi movement’s Special Forces Commander was killed in battle against the Yemeni army.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu Agency that: “Special Forces Commander Major General Mohammed Al-Hamran was killed during clashes with the army.”
