The Khaatumo II conference of Dhulbahante clan leaders held since January 5 at Taleeh fort in Sool region has culminated in the proclamation of a new semi-autonomous region in northern Somalia.
Delegates at the Taleeh conference from the Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions announced that the new administration will function independently from the semi-autonomous regions of Somaliland and Puntland, a senior spokesman of Khaatumo conference said.
Conference spokesman Adam Abdullahi Shuuriye told the local and international media that delegates of the Khaatumo Conference had unanimously agreed to the establishment of a semi-autonomous federal region in the northern administrative districts of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC).

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday said that “the time has come for Palestinian independence,” in a speech to the UN General Assembly, shortly after he officially submitted a request to the world body for recognition of Palestine as a full member state.
“Enough, enough, enough,” Abbas stated, saying that “63 years of ongoing tragedy must end.”
Abbas called the UN vote on the PA request for statehood a “moment of truth,” in which the world must decide if it will continue to allow “the last occupation in the world to continue.” The PA president held up a copy of the official request for full UN membership to raucous applause from the crowd of world diplomats.

Georgia’s two breakaway regions, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, announced, that they had been recognized by Tuvalu - the tiny South Pacific island nation for which the Georgian government pledged USD 12,000 in financial aid last year.
Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world covering just 26 square kilometers with a population of less than 12,000 people.

Some of Somali parliamentarians, hailing form Gedo region, have said they against the formation of the new Azania state which was recently established in Nairobi, the capital of neighboring Kenya.
Speaking to local media, Abdurrahman Yusuf Diriye, a Somali lawmaker, said the Azania administration doesn’t represent the clans of Somalia, spelling out that the MPs from Gedo don’t recognize the existence of the administration which led by Mohamed Gandi, former defense minister of Somalia.
Diriye charged Azania with stoking the ongoing battles in parts of Gedo region in southern Somalia.

South Sudan has become the world’s newest nation, the climax of a process made possible by the 2005 peace deal that ended a long and bloody civil war.
Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are among international dignitaries attending celebrations in the capital, Juba.
Sudan earlier became the first state to officially recognise its new neighbour.
