A military base in Iraq housing a pro-Iranian militia has been damaged in an explosion, killing one and wounding eight, security officials there have said.
Iraq’s military reported no drones or fighter jets in the area before or during the blast.

At least 18 Maoist insurgents were killed Tuesday after a clash with Indian security forces, police told AFP.
The guerrillas died in the remote eastern state of Chhattisgarh, which has seen a number of deadly assaults on Maoist forces this year.

Iran launched drones from its own territory toward Israel late Saturday, days after its Supreme Leader warned it would hit back in response to an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that left several generals dead.
Earlier Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had for weeks “been preparing for the possibility of a direct attack from Iran.”

Myanmar’s rebel forces claimed to have seized a military base near a key town at the Thailand border, in the latest blow to the ruling military regime that has been losing ground to opposition groups for months.
The Karen National Union, Myanmar’s oldest rebel group, said its military wing took control of the army base last weekend in Thin Gan Nyi Naung, a short distance from Myawaddy, a strategic trading town at the Thai border.

The Israel Defense Forces announced a full withdrawal of ground forces from southern Gaza on Sunday, leaving a smaller force to maintain operations in the whole of the strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also delivered remarks at the beginning of a cabinet meeting on Sunday, reiterating that Israel would not agree to any cease-fire unless Hamas frees all remaining hostages. The bulk of the troops withdrawing in the coming days will be leaving Khan Younis, which had served as Hamas’ central bastion in the south.
