Sudan: Sudanese army reports death of a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) senior commander in Darfur battle

Sudan’s army reported on Friday that it killed Ali Yagoub Gibril, a senior commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who was sanctioned by the United States.

The incident occurred during a battle in the besieged city of Al-Fashir in north Darfur.

Lebanon: Hezbollah fires dozens of rockets into Israel after strike kills its commander

Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement has fired multiple barrages of rockets into northern Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike which killed one of its senior commanders.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly identified more than 200 projectiles that crossed the border on Wednesday. Some triggered fires, but no casualties were reported.

Russia: Russian forces capture Staromaiorskoye village southwest of Donetsk in Ukraine

Russia announced on Monday the capture of a village in the southern part of the eastern Donetsk region. The Defense Ministry reported that its forces “continued to advance into the depths of the enemy’s defense and liberated the settlement of Staromaiorskoye” (known as Staromaiorske in Ukrainian), situated southwest of the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk.

Ukrainian forces took over the village near the southern Zaporizhzhia region in July of the previous year during their summer counteroffensive.

Yemen: Clashes between government forces and Houthi rebels kill 18 fighters in fresh flare-up

At least 18 combatants have been killed in battles between Yemeni government forces and Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the country’s southwest, two military officials told AFP on Thursday.

The clashes on Wednesday were triggered by a Houthi attack on a frontline area between government-controlled parts of Lahij governorate and Houthi-run parts of Taez province, said Mohammed al-Naqib, a spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council, a separatist group allied with the government.

Guyana: Guyana boosts security in Essequibo and engages US to defend land from Venezuela

Guyana said it’s intensifying security measures and engaging the US military to help it protect the oil-rich region of Essequibo, describing Venezuela’s intentions to grant oil exploration licenses in the area as a threat to its territorial integrity.

The United Nations Security Council plans to hold a closed-door meeting on the issue Friday, according to two people familiar with the matter. Both sides will have the chance to speak before the council’s 15 members. Guyanese President Irfaan Ali said in an earlier statement that his country had asked the Security Council to take appropriate action, but no immediate decision is expected at this point, according to the people.
