Kurdish-led forces in the northeastern Syrian city of Hasakah said on Monday that last week’s clashes at a detention centre costs the lives of just under 500 people, including four civilians, 77 prison staff and 374 prisoners.
Announcing the death toll at a press conference on Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that the heavy fighting since Islamic State group (IS) militants first attacked the prison in the Ghwayran neighbourhood had seen them lose 40 fighters.

The Syrian Democratic Forces say they’ve regained full control of al-Sina’a prison in Hasaka city after 500 Islamic State militants gave themselves up following clashes in some buildings.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regained full control of al-Sina’a prison in Syria’s northeastern city of Hasaka on Wednesday, spokesman Farhad Shami said in a tweet, a week after a breakout by Islamic State prisoners left dozens dead.

Burkina Faso’s army announced it took control of the country on Monday, deposing President Roch Kabore, dissolving the government and parliament, suspending the constitution and shuttering its borders.
An army officer, along with more than a dozen soldiers, made the announcement on state television in an address to the nation on Monday night.

The US and its allies will deliver a “swift, severe and united response” if Russia invades Ukraine, the secretary of state, Antony Blinken, warned on Sunday amid rising tensions.
The top US diplomat’s comments came as Russia continued its military build-up on the Ukraine border and Britain said it had exposed evidence of a plot by Vladimir Putin to install a pro-Moscow government in Kyiv.

South Sudan’s government has reached a peace deal in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, with the break-away faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/ Army-In-Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) under General Simon Gatwech Dual.
The deal negotiated by the Sudan Transitional Government on Sunday includes recommitting to the cessation of hostilities signed on August 8, 2018, in Khartoum that paved way for the eventual inking of the revitalised peace deal.
